Director, Employers and Fuller Working Lives Division,

DWP
Age Leadership Team

Angus Gray joined the Employment Department in 1992 as a Management Trainee. He started work in a Jobcentre, but has spent most of his career working on Welfare-to-Work policies, either in the policy centre of the Department or in the head office of the Employment Service and Jobcentre Plus. He has also spent time in Finance, Human Resources (HR) and Internal Communications. Angus worked on the legislation to introduce Jobseeker’s Allowance, designed the New Deal 25 plus, and helped secure the £2billion to fund Jobcentre Plus roll-out. He ran the European Social Fund (ESF) programme in England for over four years, worth about £2.5 billion of EU money and an equivalent amount of “matched” domestic funding.

Angus is currently head of the Employers and Fuller Working Lives Division in DWP’s Policy Group, responsible for policies which aim to influence employers to support and retain disabled people, people with health conditions, carers and older workers. His responsibility for older workers means he’s keen to work with Business in the Community’s (BITC) Age Leadership Team to learn about best practice and shape future policy.
