Business in the Community Cymru Environmental Award 2019 Winner: Kingspan Insulated Panels
Kingspan Insulated Panels won the The Wales Environmental Award at the Wales Responsible Business Awards 2019.
With significant advancements in the climate agenda in recent years, it has never been more important for businesses to take responsibility for their environmental impact. Kingspan Insulated Panels’ have committed to become a net-zero energy company by 2020. Supporting this ambitious goal are other initiatives that look to maximise resource efficiency, reduce waste and develop sustainable systems and solutions for contemporary challenges. In 2018, Kingspan committed to a 10% reduction in emissions by 2025 as part of the Science Based Targets Initiative. These elements work together to create a holistic approach to environmental sustainability that helps to keep their business at the forefront of its industry.
To date, Kingspan’s achievements include:
- reaching 75% of its net-zero energy by 2020 target, with the Holywell manufacturing site now running on 100% renewable energy
- Making all Kingspan sites across UK and Ireland zero waste to landfill
- Being named two years in a row on The Climate A List by CDP, an international not-for-profit body that measures environmental impact
- In 2017, saving an estimated 176.1 million MWh of energy.
The commitment to net zero energy and renewable power protects against anticipated rises in energy prices and sends a message to stakeholders about the benefits of upgrading existing facilities. Energy savings also help to drive greater manufacturing efficiency and increase profitability.
