Business in the Community Cymru Responsible Large Business of the Year 2019: Cardiff Business School

Cardiff Business School is changing business education to reflect the challenges facing society, including social, economic and health inequality and ecological crises, most notably climate change.

Cardiff Business School is the Business in the Community (BITC) Cymru Responsible Large Business of the Year after winning the title at The Wales Responsible Business Awards 2019.

Cardiff Business School is increasingly seen as a business school dedicated to improving social and economic conditions. Through its Public Value Strategy, it aims to change business education so that it reflects the critical challenges facing society – including social, economic and health inequality – and ecological crises, most notably climate change.

Part of Cardiff University, Cardiff Business School is dedicated to improving social and economic conditions while behaving in an ecologically responsible manner. The school is developing interdisciplinary and ethically-aware teaching and research methods that address grand challenges, its objective being to change business education so that it reflects the critical challenges facing global society. Its method is collaborative; it works with other departments and engages with external education partners to deliver a quality, bespoke and practical offer.

The school recognises numerous business benefits from operating in this way. These include:

  • an engaged workforce that is informed and can speak with impact
  • a distinctive competitive advantage over competing universities
  • activities co-created with partners who hold similar values.

“No other business school has developed a genuine and ‘homegrown’ shared narrative that engages our staff, students and partners in our work.

Public Value distinguishes us from our competitors and, at the same time, assures us that our choices and investments are made with a view to doing the most good we can, in Cardiff, Wales, the UK and beyond.”
