Mark Chapman is the General Counsel and Society Secretary at Nationwide Building Society, having previously served as General Counsel at Barclays and the Japanese bank Nomura.
Mark started his legal career at the law firm Freshfields and spent a year seconded by them to the legal team at the United Nations in New York.
Immediately before joining Nationwide in March 2018, Mark and his wife, Claire (also a lawyer), spent a year volunteering at charitable foundation school The Kusasa Project, established to help underprivileged children in a settlement in the Western Cape of South Africa. Mark is now a Trustee of the UK arm of The Kusasa Project.
Mark is a passionate champion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and is delighted to be a member of Business in the Community’s (BITC) Race Equality Leadership Team.
