Our focus on environment
INNOVATING TO SUSTAIN AND REPAIR OUR PLANET.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN
Business in the Community’s (BITC) environment campaign encourages innovative and transformational change at the core of businesses. Our programmes focus on building a one-planet economy that delivers lasting prosperity through theGlobal Goals.
There are two principal outcomes BITC is seeking from our environment work:
- Drive innovation with our champion businesses and facilitate cutting-edge collaborations between Waste to Wealth businesses and partner organisations
- Encourage committed leadership among a wider network of businesses to demonstrate improved environmental performance by setting, measuring and reporting back on targets that achieve and demonstrate improved environmental performance.
BITC’sEnvironment Leadership Teamhelps business drive innovation that turns the threats of the climate emergency into opportunity for people and nature.
The Responsible Business Mapidentifies three priorities for BITC’s environmental agenda:
1. Maximising resource productivity in a circular economy
BITC’s circular economy and resource productivity work is accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
BITC’s Circular Office initiative brings businesses together to learn, share, and try out new ideas towards greater circularity in their offices – seeking to retain the value of materials by keeping them in circulation and eliminating waste. Opportunities range from refurbishing and reusing office furniture and equipment, to reducing and recycling food and packaging, and achieving greater resource circularity in the design and refurbishment/repurposing of offices.
BITC’sCircular Economy Taskforcebrings together chief executive officers and other senior executives committed to delivering a high-impact programme to bring the circular economy to life.
2. Achieving net zero carbon and building resilience to climate risks
By 2030 the UK needs to have delivered on its commitment to limit global warming to 2°C, something many consider only possible by achieving a net zero carbon economy. It will be companies that see tackling climate change as part of future proofing their business that prosper in this changing world.
3. Water and healthy eco-systems
BITC正在与降低风险的业务和我mprove the health of water, soil and biodiversity within their supply chain.
We are developing a new model for cities that provides green and blue spaces for people and the environment, and support ways to reduce, re-use and recycle water and wastewater to create new business opportunities and address shared issues.
BITC’s Water Taskforceis a cross sectoral group that convenes to collaborate around shared problems on water and the natural environment. It uses action research to address challenging environmental issues that impact across sectors and in partnership with government.
Waste to Wealth
We have just 11 years to prevent catastrophic climate change. We must make the most out of precious resources, waste as little as possible and find ways of turning the waste we do create into new wealth. BITC’s Waste to Wealth campaign brings together business, government, academia and civil society to unlock opportunities to double the nation’s resource productivity and eliminate avoidable waste by 2030.
IT IS TIME TO STOP THROWING OUR FUTURE AWAY
Global Goals
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also known as theGlobal Goalsunderpin all BITC’s work; inspiring, engaging and challenging businesses to be purpose-driven, taking practical action and mobilising their collective strength to deliver against the Global Goals.
BITC’s Responsible Business Maphelps companies to navigate and contribute to Global Goals. The map identifies the issues businesses need to address to achieve long-term financial value, enabling both society and the planet to thrive. The Responsible Business Map also explains the actions and outcomes which BITC expects businesses to aim for against each issue.
